Exploring Scientific Frontiers: High-School Students Shine in a Dynamic Competition and Gain Cutting-Edge Insights
The first group embarked on a journey of laboratory discoveries, where they precisely measured the conductivity and pH of carefully selected beverages. Engaging in proof reactions of chosen ions using the drop method on a plate, they even experimented with decolorizing red wine through adsorption on activated carbon. The laboratory became a hub of activity as they delved into luminescence under UV light and indulged in entertaining experiments with liquid nitrogen—freezing and breaking organic matter, forming ice, and more.
Meanwhile, the second group delved into the promising realm of computational chemistry. Their introduction involved unraveling the mysteries of protein structures using advanced computational methods. From visualizing molecules to homologous modeling and harnessing AI for assembling protein structures, the students gained valuable insights into the digital side of scientific exploration.
The culmination of this intellectually stimulating day was marked by a lecture on the Nano4Tarmed project. ‘Vaclav Ranc, as the speaker, expressed immense joy in guiding the competition and motivating young students towards the realms of knowledge,’ he added, underscoring that this experience not only fostered a deeper understanding of scientific principles but also ignited a passion for inquiry and experimentation among the students. The students from Archbishop’s Gymnasium were very excited and involved when they competed. This showed that they have a lot of potential as future scientists”
