Eoin John Moynihan

Eoin John Moynihan is a PhD candidate who is working on the functionalization of Pt(IV) anticancer prodrugs with sugar mimetics.

The aim is to prepare derivatives of cis-platin in the oxidation +4 that are modified with glucose derivatives that are recognized by the glucose receptors overexpressed in the cancer cells. We expect that this targeting strategy may improve the anticancer activity and selectivity of this class of metallodrugs.

The project combines:

  • chemical part with the synthesis of a library of metal complexes: structural features of the ligands such as the type of sugar or the linker group will be varied;
  • a biological part where the anticancer activity of the compounds will be evaluated in collaboration with collaborators at MU and in other research institutes.
